When researching and talking to others, all direct you to hiking to Gilpin Lake in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. We did the research for you, completed the hike, and definitely recommend doing it counter-clockwise. This allows you the great reward of viewing Gilpin Lake from the highest point. Take some time at this viewpoint (we ate lunch) and soak up the amazing view.

Elevation Gain: 2,434ft
Terrain: Mostly dirt trail with at least 4 river crossings
Parking: Slavonia Trailhead – it is located about one hour from Steamboat Springs with the last 15-20 minutes being covered on a pretty rocky road
Facilities: Available at Slavonia Trailhead
Fun Facts: Stop for a snack or lunch at Gold Creek Lake about 2.8 – 3.15 miles from the trailhead
