Denver is lucky to be surrounded by several state parks within a 60 minute drive – making them a perfect destination for a half or full day trip! Staunton State Park is no exception! I’d say the hardest part is figuring out which trail to take within the park; there are several to choose from!
I naively entered the park without a plan and followed the parking signs until I found an open spot, which was the Meadow Lot. I headed north on the Staunton Ranch Trail (3.1 miles one way). I was captivated by the rock formations and my audiobook that I continued forward on the Bugling Trail (1.1 miles one way) without much thought. I stopped for a snack on a log overlooking the Elk Falls Pond. Lovely! Given this was already a 8+ mile day, I decided to turn around and head back the same way I came. Next time (or if you are looking for a 10+ mile day) I’ll continue forward until I reach the Elk Falls Overlook. Something to look forward to!
