[Gravel Ride] Stagecoach State Park

After two great rides already this weekend, we didn’t think it could get better. It did.

This Ride. Everything.

First Third

It starts with beautiful paved roads out of town filled with cyclists and rollers. Then you turn on your first section of champagne gravel before the adventure of the day begins on a tiny 14E where it is more of a path than a road. Awesome! This section is short (enjoy it) before returning to the champagne gravel and pavement for a couple miles. The next adventure starts now on Rcr 18 which is like a “grownups BMX course” through the forest (what?!) as you make your way to the state park.

Middle Third

We knew we were visiting Stagecoach State Park but had no idea what it entailed so it was a lovely surprise to round the corner and see a beautiful body of water (reservoir) surrounded by the mountains. It was awesome and a great rest stop on this ride. We took a few minutes to take photos, walk to the dam, use the toilet and fuel up.

Last Third

After exiting the park, we spent a few miles on County Road 14 (paved) and enjoyed a fun descent on this stretch before making a quick right hand turn on Yellow Jacket Road (gravel) where we cruised through neighborhoods before meeting up with 14B and the mud on 14E. The crazy thing was that the mud from earlier in the morning had dried and was much easier to traverse. After crossing the state highway, it was back to pavement with a few rollers back into town.

We didn’t want this ride and our time riding in Steamboat to end.

This opportunity to explore new territory and take on new challenges is my jam. Bring on the next adventure!
