The Leelanau Trail is a 17 miles long trail from the lakeshore in Traverse City to Sutton Bay up the Leelanau Peninsula. The trail is well marked with several access points, drinking fountains, and portal toilets. I especially like the signage indicating places to eat and drink close to the trail. One of my other favorite signs was the sign of the tractor – shoot out to my father!
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Michigan listed in the table of contents in my “Fifty Places to Bike Before You Die” book and when I looked at the Michigan page it highlighted the Leelanau Peninsula in Traverse City. This was my lucky day as we were flying into TVC for an upcoming family wedding AND had a late afternoon flight home. I just had to check it out!
Not wanting to bring specific cycling clothing and knowing we’d be tired from dancing at the wedding, we decided an e-bike adventure would be the perfect way to explore the trail. We rented bikes from Brick Wheels and headed to the lakeshore and the start of the trail. The easy pedaling combined with perfect autumn weather and great scenery made this trail a delight.
This adventure filled my cup of new adventures, sunny skies, and seeing many others on the trail with us!
