The Sedalia Gravel Loop is one of the hardest gravel rides in the front range of Colorado!
Here’s my take of the five (5) sections of this route.
West Jackson Creek Rd
It begins with an endless 12 mile climb gaining over 3,000 ft on 10%+ grades. LIke all steady climbs, this is about getting into the right mindset and making steady progress. I had to walk my bike at times during this section on our previous attempt so I was excited to stay on the bike this time.
Rampart Range Rd
You get to “relax” as you ride down this road filled with single campsites around every bend. I was not expecting campsites and therefore this many vehicles on this stretch of this ride..and we did it in September.
South Jackson Creek Rd + Watson Park Rd
This “road” was more of a trail and the tail of two experiences. After ditching the cars on Rampart Range Road, this was a fun stretch that made you feel like a kid again on a single-track trail. That is until we reach the 2nd climb of the ride. We knew it was coming and we knew the gradients but, yikes, it was tough and rough. I did have to walk my bike on short sections of this.
Dakan Mountain Rd
Again, more of a trail than road and very rough which isn’t ideal when descending. I love descending and love it more when I don’t have to hold the brake (don’t want to lose the “free” speed). I had to hold the brake the entire time..boo!
At the same time, you feel so far from the city on this stretch and we felt far from home (which was only 10ish miles away). I’m continuously in wonder of the different ways the mountains make you feel. Love.
S Perry Park Rd
A busy county road without a shoulder is never fun and why we are on gravel bikes and quiet dirt roads to avoid in the first place. However, this three (3) mile stretch is a necessity to return to our parked car and complete the loop.
