The beginning of the trail! The starting point for the 71 mile adventure through the Denver metro! This route cover the first and second segments located in the southwest Denver Metro.
Segment 1: It took me a while to “find” the actual starting point in Waterton Canyon as it isn’t easily marked (they are working on this) and I had to do some research. The starting point is indicated by small signage and I finally stopped to snap a photo and walk around the short dam (there are two taller dams in the canyon). After a short stop, I started down the trail through the canyon and back to the trailhead.
Segment 2: The next segment picks up after a short stint on the road (they are also working to eliminate this) and flows around horse ranches and cool homes in the Roxborough area. Heads up that you will most likely run into a horse or two on this segment as it goes through the Cottonwood Riding Club and you are responsible to yield to horses. I usually take this opportunity to stop, take a drink, and relax for a minute.
