[Ski Trip] Big Sky Resort

Big Sky Resort is the largest ski resort in North America! It has 5,800 skiable acres and is located in southwestern Montana; an hour south of Bozeman and an hour north of Yellowstone National Park.

With all of that acreage you can spend days skiing new terrain and never get bored – so awesome! They are currently working on adding MORE runs and amenities with their 2025 Vision Project

The area is divided by the ski resort, with several hotels and resort shops, and the village 5 miles away with more restaurants and shops. We stayed closer to the resort yet did drive down to the village each night for dinner. There is a shuttle between the two areas during ski hours but very limited after that. If I had to choose, I’d stay near the village to be closer to the restaurants, shops, and nightlife.

We visited Big Sky for the first time in late March of 2022 and had a wonderful week of skiing and exploring! It’s about a 10-11 hour drive from Denver but we found cheap tickets on Southwest and splurged for the quick flight! I’m a big foodie and I thought we nailed our restaurant choices all week. Read about them below along with the rest of the details!

Day 1: Sunday, March 27

  • Flew from DIA to Bozeman in the morning
  • Lunch at the uber trendy and popular brunch spot, Jam! – so good!
  • Picked up groceries for the week at Safeway in Bozeman before making the turn to Big Sky (we stayed at an Airbnb and we make breakfast and pack lunches each day)
  • After checking in, we headed down to the village to explore and find our Sunday night Pizza!
  • Pizza Dinner at the super busy Ousel & Spur Pizza Co. where we snagged two seats on the bar and had a front row seat to all of the action!

Day 2: Monday, March 28

Day 3: Tuesday, March 29

  • Another Ski Day at Big Sky Resort
  • Checked out our friends’ land near the village
  • Iconic BBQ Dinner at Riverhouse BBQ a few miles down Hwy 191 along the Gallatin River. The views. The people watching. The food. Go there!

Day 4: Wednesday, March 30

  • More runs at Big Sky Resort
  • Happy Hour [attempt] at Lone Peak Brewery which was closed 🙁
  • Memorable dining experience at Horn and Cantle on Lone Mountain Ranch. I’d advise reservations for most yet they aren’t our style. With an hour wait, the hostess sent us down to the “stable” where they had a 3 seat bar in a small room that served people waiting for their sleigh ride. The stories we shared and heard – memorable. We had a wonderful dinner and would definitely recommend Horn and Cantle for a special night out.

Day 5: Thursday, March 30

  • Final day of skiing at Big Sky Resort
  • Shopping around the base and in the village
  • Happy Hour at The Rocks Tasting Room celebrating our last night in Big Sky

Day 6: Thursday, March 30

  • Headed back to Bozeman en route to Denver
  • Easy Stroll around Montana State University
  • Lunch in downtown Bozeman at Revelry – another great spot and highly recommended!
  • Easy Stroll downtown Bozeman – main street is super cute and loaded with cool athletic shops which is right up my alley. I could have shopped much longer 🙂
  • Until next time, Big Sky, we had a blast!
