Steamboat Spring is a great weekend getaway from Denver. This was our first weekend destination after we moved to Denver. We visited over the long Labor Day weekend and took Friday off so we could leave in the morning and enjoy Friday afternoon in Steamboat Springs. We left early Monday morning in an attempt to beat traffic from the high country into Denver!
Our itinerary was filled with exploration, exercise, and good-eating with brewery hopping fun!
Friday
Lunch: Pick up sandwiches at Cruisers Sub Shop
Activity: Hike Fish Creek Falls Recreation Area (hiking options from 0.5 – 5 miles one way)
Activity: Explore downtown Steamboat Springs along Yampa Street with a stop at Mountain Tap Brewery. Tip! Get the popcorn!
Dinner: Enjoy pizza and beer at Storm Peak Brewing Co.
Saturday
Activity: Ride on some of the best gravel roads around the Sleeping Giant
Lunch: Grab lunch at the Steamboat Springs Farmers Market
Activity: Enjoy some rest and relaxation at a Hot Spring or for free at the creek running through the Steamboat Resort (we did this!)
Dinner: Enjoy a burrito (bowl) and margarita at Taco Cabo
Dessert: Ice Cream at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Sunday
Activity: Hike Mount Zirkel! It is about an hour’s drive north of Steamboat but well worth the drive!
Lunch: Pack your lunch for enjoying while taking in an epic view of Gilpin Lake
Activity: Enjoy the hike back to your car after making your way to Gilpin Lake – this hike is an all day activity!
Dinner: Grab some takeout and enjoy a relaxing night in after your big hike and drive! We are big pizza fans so we picked up pizzas from Brick in the Steamboat Springs Village.
