We opened our first ski season in Colorado at Aspen Snowmass in early December to celebrate a milestone birthday and closed our first season in Colorado at Aspen Snowmass. We chose to upgrade our Ikon package which gave us 7 days at Aspen so we were determined to use all 7 of those days!
This trip was like a new experience for us! Unlike visiting at the beginning of the season with very few runs open, coming in late March meant everything was open and busy! With the aid of warmer weather, we focused on getting up early and hitting the runs when they opened, which allowed us as much corduroy as possible! Corduroy refers to the lines in the snow that the groomers make each morning before the resort opens. This helps even out the run and provides a smooth surface at the beginning of each day.
Here is a rundown of our Spring Break vacation at Aspen Snowmass!
Day 1: March 26th
- Drove from Denver to Snowmass in the morning
- Skied all afternoon at Snowmass – we made our way to the viewing deck of Maroon Bells and went on an epic adventure up and down Long Shot!
- Happy Hour at New Belgium Ranger Station
- BBQ at Slow Groovin Chophouse in Snowmass Mall
Day 2: March 27th
Day 3: March 28th
- Skied Aspen – our skiing progress was highlighted on Ruthie’s Run at Aspen. We tentatively made our way down the run in early December. Several months later, we tested ourselves on this run again. This time, we easily made our way down and actually challenged ourselves trying to go faster each time! It was so much fun and definitely my favorite run at Aspen!
- Afternoon shopping in Snowmass Mall – several fun outdoor + souvenir shops to explore
- Pizza dinner from Taster’s Pizza back at our hotel where we caught up with our families via Zoom throughout the US
Day 4: March 29th
- FInal morning of skiing of the 2020/2021 season. We were super grateful to ski the mountains 25-30 times this season despite the Covid pandemic. We cannot wait for more adventures in the 2021/2022 season!
