[Ski] Arapahoe Basin

A-Basin as it is called by the locals is a popular ski resort for day trips from the Denver Metro. It attracts locals for a number of reasons including challenging terrain, simple amenities, and one of the closest resorts to the Denver Metro.

I headed up to A-Basin on a blue-bird Sunday in January. I left Arvada after the morning rush and had an easy drive to the mountains. However, the opposite occurred on my drive home. My 1:10 hours drive there turned into a 2:30 hours drive home. Keep traffic in mind when planning your day trip!

My approach to skiing the mountain is the same; start with green runs off the Black Mountain Express and slowly move to the harder runs. A-Basin has a unique landscape with its “bowl” on the front side of the mountain with lots of blue runs to explore. I adventured over to the backside and the Zuma Lift but the terrain was icy during my visit. After lunch, I headed over to The Beavers which features the hardest two blue runs, Loafer and Davis. I enjoyed the challenge of both yet once each was good enough for me!

Have you been to A-Basin?! What is your favorite part?!
