If you are looking for the quintessential bike ride in Denver, the Cherry Creek Trail is it! The northern trailhead starts in Confluence Park which is along the riverside in downtown Denver. The trail makes its way southeast and follows Cherry Creek through downtown, Cherry Creek, Glendale, Virginia Village, and crosses with the High Canal Trail until you reach Cherry Creek State Park. This section is 12 miles and a popular route to try out. We started from our home in Arvada which added 6 miles each way and went around the state park for a 47 mile day. Upon reaching the dam, you can go right or left to go around Cherry Creek Reservoir. If you want more miles, you can continue on the trail to Castlewood Canyon State Park at mile 40 of the trail. My favorite parks of the trail are the river area at the beginning, going under several bridges, criss-crossing the creek and circling around the state park!
