The Clear Creek canyon area west of Golden is one of my favorites is the Denver Metro! Carved in a canyon, this area makes you feel like you are a million miles from the city and alone in the expansive natural wonderland!
The Welch Ditch Trail is located “above” the paved path below and is a cool mix of a narrow dirt path, cement walls and multiple bridges! It is completely shade covered as well, if that is important to you!
It is a short 2.5 mile trail out-and-back, with minimal gain making it accessible for most! It does look like the trail might continue further west in the future, which I’d love to explore!

Fun Facts: If you are a rock climber, consider this area. The climbing area is a short walk from the trailhead!
