The Spruce Mountain Trail is a hidden gem in Larkspur Colorado! It is “hidden” between Denver and Colorado Springs along Interstate 25. The trailhead is located a few short miles from the exit and next to a country road (no 4×4 vehicle needed).
I explored Spruce Mountain Open Space on an early summer Saturday morning during a solo adventure. The trailhead was almost full when I arrived around 7:30am (a good sign when hiking alone). I followed the trail (like a figure 8) to the left and enjoyed a gradual climb to the main lookout spot, Windy Point. PSA – the name is a true representative of the spot – it was very windy making it “difficult” to take photos. I was able to do a decent amount of trail running on the way down due to the relatively even dirt surface. The trail was a true delight and one I will visit again!
