The trail to Picacho Peak, which is part of the Santa Fe National Forest and rises to 8,498 feet, begins at the St. John’s trailhead, a short 15-minute drive east of downtown Santa Fe.
Despite the unexpected snow, we were determined to hike the trail. Equipped with waterproof boots and cold-weather gear, we set off and were fortunate to find a snow-packed trail left by other hikers. The sunny skies and good conversation made the trek enjoyable, and we reached the summit with smiles on our faces.
