[Hike] Cretaceous Trail

The Cretaceous Trail is a 3 mile loop trail on the Southwest side of South Table Mountain Park. This entrance is in the heart of Denver West + Lakewood + Golden area of the Denver metro. I would recommend it as a beginner trail or for trail running as it is relatively flat without rocks and offers a wide trail.

I wanted to combine a short drive + close to shopping so I headed here on a Sunday morning adventure! The Colorado Mills shopping area is just across the street for browsing afterwards. I’ve hiked on the opposite side of South Table Mountain previously but didn’t make it across the expansive area and glad I did this time! I enjoyed the relatively flat terrain after three days skiing in the mountains and the “rest stop” at Carl’s point with a fantastic view of downtown Denver!

Good to Know

Distance: 3 mile loop

Elevation Gain: ~300 ft

Terrain: Wide gravel trail

Parking: Available at Camp George West Trailhead

Facilities: Available at Camp George West Trailhead

Fun Fact: I recommend checking out the county and/or city’s website for the trail map in addition to AllTrails. AllTrails and Google didn’t give me a trailhead to park at (I parked in an apartment complex) but the county’s trail map showed a trailhead a few minutes away. If only I had known!
