Castlewood Canyon State Park is a hidden gem in Castle Rock, Colorado located a few miles east of Interstate 25. I visited on a perfect sunny fall morning and explored on an awesome five mile loop hike (extra kuddos for the loop!).
The focal point of this state park is the dam located in the middle of the park next to Cherry Creek and surrounded by the dramatic canyon walls. So cool and unique!
I chose to make a loop (my favorite) and hiked along the Creek Bottom Trail until I reached the dam. I climbed around the dam and took photos below, above, and across from it! There is a small bridge to cross the creek and then connected with the Rimrock Trail where I hike on top of the canyon. I loved the dramatic differences from one side to the other – you don’t get that with most trails!
I definitely recommend making a trip to Castlewood Canyon State Park – I know I’ll be back!
