If you are looking for a long, difficult trail around Golden, Colorado – then Beaver Brook Trail is for you! The out and back trail is 13.4 miles from the Windy Saddle Trailhead on Lookout Mountain to Beaver Brook Trailhead off Hwy 6.
This trail has been on my list since I moved to Colorado and cycled by the popular trailhead every time I climbed Lookout Mountain. After setting out a multi-use trail for the first 0.5 miles, Beaver Brook turns into a Hikers Only Trail [bonus!]. You will soon see why; the rocks are mighty and no bike would be able to cover this terrain! The rocky section lessens but still far from easy for the first 3 miles [at the point where I turned around].
If you can swing the logistics, park a car at one trailhead and run to the other for an awesome long run! I definitely would like to do that someday!
