Have a Workout Plan

This is where a training schedule or group class workouts are awesome. When you follow a training schedule, you don’t have to think, create, or decide on what you want to do – it is already outlined for you!

A group class is great as well – as you soon as you walk in the door – you’ll be guided throughout the class and most likely pushed further than you would have on your own!

For the past 7 months I followed an Ironman 70.3 triathlon training schedule (first for Liberty 70.3 and then for Boulder 70.3) so my morning workout was nicely laid out for me each morning. I kept a printed copy of the training schedule (paper copy in a clear plastic sheet) in my workout bag so I always had access to it. Other than switching up a few workouts for holidays and other commitments, the schedule worked great and I was successfully in getting to and completing each workout.

I just finished Ironman Boulder 70.3 and am still in the middle of my recovery period so I don’t have my workouts scheduled and it feels weird! I’m not going to lie – I kind of miss my schedule!

In addition, there is going to be transition period coming up when I’m deciding what to do this fall (one final shorter triathlon?, focus on a half marathon?, group classes?) and before I decide on my 2019 plan. Once I decide on my fall plan, I’ll be anxious to get a plan in place. For me, a plan is the best way to ensure a successful morning workout!
