The Waterton Canyon road is the perfect ride for gravel ride beginners within 30 minutes of Denver. The road is firmly-packed, wide, and car-free with a slight incline to the end of the road 6.5 miles up the canyon. It is very popular with hikers, runners, and cyclists. There is a large parking lot across the street from the trailhead.
