[Explore] Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island is a small, historic island (eight miles around) in northern Michigan. The island is a popular tourist attraction in the region known for its fudge and “no automobiles allowed” law on the island. The main forms of transportation on the island are horses, cycling, and walking. Another fun fact is that there are permanent residents on the island – complete with a school – so cool!

We took a day trip to Mackinac Island when we were in Michigan for a family wedding in the Petoskey region. After parking and taking a shuttle, we were all aboard the Shelper’s Ferry to the Island, a 15 minute trip. Upon arriving at the Island, we were greeted by several bike rental shops and we quickly rented four (4) bikes to start our adventure. We ventured counter clockwise around the island. Cycling allowed us to take in the views, snap cool photos, and make stops as needed.

After returning our bikes, we ventured on foot along main street – buying souvenirs at the Pink Pony Club, fudge at Murdock’s, lunch at Doud’s market (America’s oldest grocery store), and coffee at Lucky Bean Coffee Shop. What a special, unique spot!
