I signed up for Pigman 70.3 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the day the race opened to get the best price possible. It started out as a great idea – my youngest sister lived there, great end of August date, and located within a state park.
I started to train. I bought my Open Swim pass. Then, in late June, I received an email that the event was canceled due to low attendance. No way.
It was now late in the season to sign up for other events and I would have to pay premium pricing. This was a problem because I was switching careers in 2016 so I did not have extra money to spend on premium pricing so I took the season off. I enjoyed leisure rides and runs throughout the summer and started planning for 2017.
