[Gravel Ride] Col d’Bison

This route covers some iconic sections of gravel (and paved roads) in the Steamboat Springs Area!

Cow Creek Section (County Rd 33)

After riding on pavement for several miles outside of town, you’ll turn on the Cow Creek section of this route where you’ll encounter more cows than people or cars – awesome! The road isn’t maintained so it is the toughest on the route yet we took this as an opportunity to chill, look at the scenery and be one with the cows.

Bison Section (County Rd 29)

The next memorable section is county ride 29 and bison ranch that runs along it. It was a glorious stretch and we lucked out to see bison near the fence line twice (this made up for NOT seeing any in the Black Hills). Ironically, this ranch had a booth at the farmer’s market and we were excited to chat with them after just visiting their ranch…by bicycle!

Paved Descents!

I will always remember the two paved descents on this route, especially the first! After finishing the Bison Section, we turned on County Rd 27 (paved) and climbed a bit before a memorable descent. What a feeling! I love new routes and not knowing what is around the next corner and I love descending and going fast! It was a perfect descent in that there were no cars, great road surface, and you can see what was around the corner.
