Banff Sunshine Ski Resort is located within Banff National Park and 15-25 minutes from downtown Banff, Canada. There are several daily shuttles from Banff making it an easy and convenient ski resort to visit.
The resort setup is very unique and nothing we’d experienced before. First, you are dropped off at the “end of the road” and all you see is a gondola – no runs in sight! Second, we followed the crowds and learned you have to take a 20 minute gondola ride up to the village base (no roads led to the village). Third, there is lodging in the village base yet no vehicle access – super cool yet we’d feel “trapped” in this setup without a way out 24/7!
Banff Sunshine has three (3) skiable mountains; Goat’s Eye, Lookout, and Standish. We were lucky to get a powder + bluebird on our first day and headed up Lookout Mountain for the morning and skied in two (2) provinces on the runs surrounding the Great Divide Express Quad.
We skied Standard Mountain in the afternoon, posing at the Sunshine sign, and gradually making our way down The Waterfall run! We also loved the Tin Can Alley and Wawa Bowl runs off the Wawa Quad.
We had the opposite weather on our second day at Banff Sunshine. It was dark, windy, cold, and snowing! We started our day on Goat’s Mountain, skiing down Sunshine Coast, but the gusts and visibility made it a one time run. We moved back to Standish Mountain and skied down runs that were lower in elevation and protected from the wind.
