The Grazing Elk Trail is a 4.6 mile loop within South Valley Park in Littleton, Colorado. The park has a north and south entrance making it convenient for those coming from Denver and the south metro. If you are up for a long hike, you can take the connection to Deer Creek Canyon Park.
I hiked the Grazing Elk Trail on a winter Sunday morning, which gave me exposure to all of the elements! An argument for a winter hike is that a large portion of the trail is on a “flat” prairie field giving you direct access to the winter sun. An argument against a winter hike is that portions of the trail are muddy and portions are snow-packed and slippery. You can decide which argument you want to take! Enjoy!
