Takeaway from the week

It was the last of the three weeks of intensity before Ironman 70.3 Boulder and I felt good all week – maybe I knew tapering was so close!

I received a few swimming tips in the pool on Wednesday morning which I’m pretty excited about as I want to improve my stroke but have no idea how it looks! The 3 tips were; 1) put your hand together versus spreading your fingers out, 2) keep your arm in a straight line and don’t cross over; 3) look ahead versus looking down. I was all about tips 1 and 2 but tip 3 was the opposite of what I’ve been told. But I’m willing to try it out. I tried to implement all three immediately on Wednesday and again Friday and Sunday. I have to say I’m impressive so far and have cut by 100 yard pace by 5-6 seconds! The hardest part is remember to apply all three tips – especially keeping my head up. More to come on this!

Saturday’s 66 mile ride was my longest continuous ride to date (up from ~60 which I’ve done several times) and it felt great. We went out along Hennepin County Road 6 to Watertown and it is a great ride of uninterrupted miles which you cannot find in the city 🙂

Unlike last week’s long run, I did hit my race pace miles this week and had a great run. The weather was a bit cooler and it was cloudy so that helps as well.

We are doing an 8 day road trip to Ironman 70.3 Boulder so I think planning the trip has helped divert my attention from worrying about the race to the fun of planning a vacation to the lovely state of Colorado!

What is the longest road trip you’ve traveled for a race?
