Takeaway from the week

Tapering is always an interesting time. Part of you is happy for the reduction in volume but the other part of you is so used to the volume that is strange to do less. Like the 4th of July week, this week called for a little adjusting as we headed up north for our annual “Christmas in July” cabin weekend in Minong, Wisconsin.

With the schedule adjusting and a Coeur Sports swimming event, it turned out to be a big swimming week which I was actually okay with especially the open water swimming. I continued the focus on the swimming tips I received but then my head went to ‘what else can I improve?’ and several small items came to mind. BUT, I have to remind myself that my race in one week away and I can only focus on a few things at a time. I need to nail those before moving next down my list.

Friday’s workout is normally a recovery swim so I failed to see that my training plan said recovery spin so more laps were added Friday morning and then I could not pass up the opportunity to swim across a lake on Saturday morning! More yards!

We didn’t bring our bikes to cabin county so I planned to flip-flop Saturday and Sunday’s workout hitting the rolling country hills for a 5 mile run on Saturday and going for a leisure 30 mile ride on Sunday. But I decided against the Sunday easy ride. The weather was spotty and I knew I needed a day to relax. Of course, there was a little second guessing but ultimately I’m okay with my decision.

We made our road trip checklist in the car on the way home from cabin country and are getting ready to hit the road shortly!
